KBR Jobs in Iraq: Current Situation – 2019

Currently, KBR provides base life support and logistics services in Iraq and throughout the Arabian Peninsula under the LOGCAP IV contract.

Keep in mind that this could change with the award of LOGCAP V slated for April 2019.

KBR jobs in Iraq under the LOGCAP program are typically one-year, open-ended contracts. KBR is a major LOGCAP contractor providing life and logistical support for U.S. forces in Afghanistan, The Republic of Georgia, Kuwait and Iraq; with support operations in Dubai, UAE.

KBR offers a tremendous amount of overview information on their career website. But finding much of it is difficult since it is buried in the terms and conditions sections that most people don’t read before they click through.

Here is what I found in their job board area, which I have put in question and answer format.


How Do They Recruit for KBR Jobs in Iraq?

The KBR group of companies uses a global candidate database which means your resume / CV can be considered against a wide range of job opportunities worldwide. Therefore, your candidate record may be transferred to companies globally within KBR.


What happens when you submit a resume or apply for job on KBR’s job board?

Their terms and conditions include this language, which they call Candidate Agreement:

You agree that the information you have provided is true and complete to the best of your knowledge. Any misrepresentation or omission of material fact can result in cancellation of consideration for employment, or termination from employment if your are employed.

KBR and its representatives have your permission to verify all information supplied by you, and to acquire information to determine your suitability for employment. You hereby release them and all persons or organization supplying information about you, from any and all liability arising out of the exchange or use of such information.

You understand that by submitting this information you are an applicant for employment and your submission of this information does not create a contract of employment or other employment relationship with KBR.


What if you don’t have a resume. Is one required?

Yes. If you do not have an electronic resume, click on their Resume Builder and the system will walk you through the steps to create your resume.


Should you complete a new profile for each additional job if you want to apply?

There is no need to complete an additional profile. Their system allows you to use your one profile to apply for multiple jobs by logging in under “Existing Member”.

What happens if a job becomes available for which you are qualified but haven’t applied for yet?

KBR encourages you to check the website frequently, as new jobs are posted daily. Secondly, you can use the job agent function to be notified by e-mail when job titles are posted containing key words and other search critieria you select.

In addition, as new positions become available, you may be included in searches conducted by Human Resources as they search for applicants who meet the skills, competencies and qualifications for new open positions.


How long is your resume kept on file?

In the event you are unsuccessful for the position applied for, or KBR has no suitable current positions matching your requirements, they will retain your details on file for a period of up to 24 months for consideration against future vacancies, if not otherwise notified by you.


LOGCAP Work Conditions

Previously if you applied for KBR jobs in Iraq through their career site, the first thing you would need to do is agree to their terms and conditions. I bet most people didn’t read them, but just clicked on I Agree and continued. I read through the whole statement and found some very interesting information tucked away at the bottom.

I am including parts of it here for you from the section called LOGCAP WORK ENVIRONMENT TERMS and CONDITIONS. This is taken exactly as written there.

1. Dangerous Conditions:
It should be understood that employment may be located in potentially dangerous areas, including combat or war zones. This might involve the possibility of suffering harm to your person or property by dangerous forces or friendly fire. These dangers are inherent to working conditions in dangerous environments.

2. Duration of Employment Agreement:
If you are extended a contingent offer of employment and you successfully complete processing in Houston, Texas, you will enter into an open ended employment agreement. KBR may offer to extend or end the employment agreement at any time. There is no guarantee of minimum duration for the employment agreement.

3. Work Assignment Locations:
Under the LOGCAP project, KBR deploys employees to Central Asia and the Middle East.

4. Living and Working Conditions:
The living and working conditions in Central Asia and the Middle East are harsh. The following is a list of conditions common to these locations:

• You will be living and working on a United States or Coalition forces military base camp.
• The bases may be dangerous and are subject to random gun fire, rocket propelled grenades and mortar rounds.
• For your protection, you will be restricted to the base camp at all times.
• Certain positions, such as truck drivers, may require you to leave the base to successfully complete your job duties.
• The weather conditions are extreme and are dependent on your assignment location. During the summer months it can reach 150 degrees Fahrenheit/66 degrees Celsius and as low as 0 degrees Fahrenheit/ -18 degrees Celsius with snow in the winter.
• Sand and dust storms are common.
• You can expect to encounter mice, rats, snakes, scorpions, ticks, flies, sand fleas, and other animals and insects in the camp and living quarters.
• Living conditions vary per site.
• You may be living in an 8-10 person tent and be issued a sleeping bag and cot.
• Showers may be cold. There may be occasions where showers are not readily available due to power outages or other factors.
• You will be provided with 3 meals per day. They may consist of hot meals or Meals Ready to Eat (MRE’s) under certain circumstances.
• You should anticipate a working schedule of up to 7 days per week and between 8 to 12 hours per day.
• All positions are very hands-on regardless of your position/title, and every employee must be able and prepared to perform physical labor.
• If you are a casualty of a Nuclear, Biological or Chemical attack, your body will be cremated and sent home.

5. Drug Screen and Background Check:
KBR is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a Drug Free Workplace.

• KBR will conduct a comprehensive drug screening of all candidates selected for processing
• United States citizens will undergo a seven year criminal background check
• Non-United States citizens must provide a police check/criminal background check that goes back seven years. The police check/criminal background check must be translated into English, by an official translator.
• All applicants must fully disclose their criminal background.

6. Passport and Driver’s License:
• You must possess a passport with at least 12 months of remaining validity and with at least 4 blank visa/stamp pages (front and back) remaining
• If your passport was issued by a country other than the United States, you must possess a passport issued by a country participating in the Visa Waiver Program (or be able to obtain a Business Visitor Visa (B-1 Visa) at your expense), allowing you to travel to the United States for processing
• If you reside in the United States, but are not a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, you must possess a valid document issued by the United States government granting you reentry into the United States
• You must possess a driver’s license with at least 6 months of remaining validity (Truck/Bus Drivers must have at least 12 months of remaining validity on their Commercial Driver’s License)

7. Processing:
Processing will occur in Houston, Texas and typically takes between 6 – 9 days. During this time period, you are in a candidate status and will not be paid for processing.

8. Potential Medical Disqualifiers:
The work sites in Central Asia and the Middle East are in remote and potentially dangerous environments. Many of the work locations are isolated from qualified medical assistance. Poor accessibility to the work site and communications may cause long delays in evacuation, and may convert a minor medical problem into a major emergency. Evacuation and/or repatriation of a sick employee may take a considerable amount of time and may be a hazardous operation itself.

KBR requires that all persons working or living in regions with limited medical resources shall be examined periodically and classified as medically fit to work.

KBR will conduct a thorough pre-employment screening/physical, including, blood work, EKG (over age 40 or as necessary), chest x-ray, medical exam and immunizations. Other studies will be done as indicated.

Due to the inherent danger and limited medical facilities in Central Asia and the Middle East, the following are potential medical disqualifiers:
• Coronary artery disease with angina, or a history of congestive heart failure or cardiomyopathy
• Anticoagulants (blood thinners)
• Anyone with seizures within the last year unless they were secondary to a known stimulus which has subsequently been removed
• Anyone currently taking psychiatric medications including antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, or prescription sleeping pills
• Most psychiatric medical conditions
• A history of excessive migraine headaches
• A history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with a history of acute episodes or requiring maintenance medications
• A history of asthma with acute asthmatic attacks or requiring maintenance medications
• Active cancer or cancer requiring ongoing cancer therapy
• Active hepatitis
• Insulin dependent diabetics
• Diabetics requiring oral medications
• Diet controlled diabetics whose blood sugar is elevated outside the normal range
• Untreated/Uncontrolled hypertension
• Individuals with a history of coronary artery disease treated by stents, angioplasty, coronary artery bypass, pacemakers, automatic internal defibrillators, or valve replacement
• Cardiac arrhythmias under treatment
• Applicants with poor oral hygiene or existing dental or periodontal conditions
• Obesity (Body Mass Index equal to or greater than 40)
• Vision impairments that are not correctable to 20/40 with corrective lenses
• Profound Hearing loss
• Severe skin conditions
• Sleep apnea requiring CPAP
• Contagious diseases such as Hepatitis, HIV, or Tuberculosis
• Active Orthodontia
• Pregnancy
• Unrepaired hernia
• Frequent kidney stones
• Conditions requiring narcotic pain medication and/or muscle relaxants

9. Medical Assessment
You will be individually assessed to determine if you are eligible for deployment. This assessment will include, but is not limited to, analysis of the following factors:
• Existing medical condition and the severity of the medical condition
• Whether the condition will affect the individual’s ability to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
• Whether providing a requested accommodation to enable the individual to perform his/her job functions would create an undue hardship on KBR
• Whether current medical facilities and staff can support the condition
• Whether any required medications are available and/or can be stored under the conditions in Central Asia and the Middle East
• Whether any dietary restrictions can be adhered to in the circumstances and conditions present in the Central Asia and the Middle East and whether the consequences of failure to adhere to dietary guidelines will endanger the individual or others
• Whether the climate conditions in the Central Asia and the Middle East may reasonably be anticipated to exacerbate, aggravate, or worsen the condition
• Whether the condition, if it worsens, will allow adequate time for replacement and/or evacuation without endangering the individual or others
• Whether obtaining medical care for the condition outside of current medical facilities and staff is possible
• Whether obtaining medical care outside of current medical facilities and staff would present an undue hardship, financial or otherwise
• Whether the condition will pose a threat of harm to the individual or others in the circumstances present or reasonably anticipated in the Central Asia and the Middle East
• Whether combat or other war-time conditions may create a risk that the condition may be left untreated
• An analysis of the consequences to the individual and/or others who work around him/her if treatment for the condition or medication is not available.
