2nd Quarter FY 2018 Contractor Count Increases by 1,197

During 2nd quarter FY18, USCENTCOM reported approximately 47,454 contractor personnel supporting DoD in the USCENTCOM AOR, an increase of approximately 1,197 from the previous quarter.

This report provides DoD contractor personnel numbers for 2nd quarter FY18 and current status of efforts underway to improve management of contractors accompanying U.S. Forces. It includes data on DoD contractor personnel deployed in Afghanistan, Operation Freedom’s Sentinel (OFS); Iraq and Syria, Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR); and the U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) area of responsibility (AOR).

Operation Inherent Resolve (Iraq & Syria) Summary

Contractor Posture: Of the approximately 11,965 contractors supporting U.S. Government operations in Iraq and Syria, approximately 5,508 contractors are directly supporting DoD-funded contracts. This is an 11.7% increase over last quarter, in part due to the inclusion of Syria reports in this quarter.

  • Construction 447 (8.1%)
  • IT/Communications Support 266 (4.8%)
  • Logistics/Maintenance 1,710 (31.2%)
  • Management/Administrative 284 (5.2%)

Operation Freedom’s Sentinel (Afghanistan) Summary

Approximately 26,647 DoD contractors supported operations in Afghanistan during 2nd quarter FY18, an increase of 2.3% from 1st quarter FY18. Local Nationals comprise 21.4% of total contractor force; 20,670 US/TCN remain to redeploy.
